Police received several calls from residents of the Holland Park apartment complex reporting gunshots. At about the same time, another caller reported her son was shot, police spokesman Brian Kelly said.

The shots seem to have originated from a corner of the parking lot between two building in the complex, the newspaper said.

"It appears that at least two suspects were engaged in some form of argument when the victim was unintentionally shot. It is possible that the parties responsible are unaware that a person was struck by their gunshots," Kelly said.

Kelly said investigators were interviewing witnesses and trying to determine the events leading up to the shooting.
