DETROIT, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- A federal judge said the city of Detroit and its former mayor have until this week to turn over records in a lawsuit filed by the family of an exotic dancer.
Chief U.S. District Judge Gerald Rosen said he would not tolerate any delays in producing the documents sought by attorneys representing the family of the woman who was killed in a drive-by shooting in 2003 after allegedly performing at the mayoral mansion the previous year.
The Detroit News said Monday that the judge issued a written order late Friday warning that "further failures to provide timely and appropriate responses to discovery requests will be met with escalating rounds of sanctions, up to and including dismissal of claims or the entry of judgment."
Tamara Greene's family filed suit in 2005 against the city and ex-mayor Kwame Kirkpatrick for allegedly obstructing the investigation into the slaying. Attorneys are seeking correspondence and reports from police, fire and other city offices and officials.
