Obama, Bush, Clinton urge Haiti help

WASHINGTON, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama and former presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton Saturday called on Americans to send money to help Haiti earthquake victims.

Appearing together in the White House Rose Garden, the three -- Democrats Obama and Clinton and Republican Bush -- signaled that party differences should be put aside to pitch in with a massive efforts to help survivors.

"By coming together in this way, these two leaders send an unmistakable message to to the people of Haiti and to the people of the world: In these difficult hours, America stands united," Obama said.

"I commend the president for his swift and timely response to the disaster," said Bush. "Our hearts are broken when we see scenes of little children struggling without a mom or a dad, or the bodies in the streets and the physical damage of the earthquake."

Clinton, already serving as the special United Nations envoy to Haiti, said, "Right now, all we need to do is get food and medicine and water and a secure place for them to be."
