The victim, Daniel Johnson Jr., 58, was found in his bedroom Tuesday with a bullet wound in his head. Investigators said his television and other items were missing.

Metcalf told reporters he "knew of" Johnson but denied killing him.

Court records show Metcalf has been arrested 11 times since his 18th birthday, although many of the charges have been dropped. His most recent arrest was in November, with a charge of assaulting a police officer after he allegedly was pulled over for driving his motorcycle erratically and became so violent police used their stun guns.

Detective Sgt. Gary White said Johnson's killing so angered the community even Metcalf's family and friends gave police information.
