Ohio man accused of shooting at cars

BEREA, Ohio, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Police in Berea, Ohio, said Friday an area man was arrested on suspicion of firing on cars on multiple occasions.

The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported Paul Hausmann of Strongsville is charged with felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon in connection with several area incidents since last August in which a gunman fired on cars.

Berea Police Chief Mark Schultz said authorities are confident Hausmann, 65, is the individual responsible for the sniper attacks that began Aug. 18.

"We have solved this case. We feel comfortable [people] can get back to their normal routine and not look over their shoulder on Prospect Road," Schultz said.

The most recent shooting took place Dec. 19. No injuries were reported in the attacks and police have not determined a motive.

The Plain Dealer said authorities first began to suspect Hausmann after an area homeowner complained someone in a vehicle pointed a gun at his house. The description of the vehicle allegedly matched that of Hausmann's car.
