Terrorist suspect makes juror demand

NEW YORK, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Accused terrorist Aafia Siddiqui said the jury in her New York trial should not contain anyone with a "Zionist or Israeli background."

The New York Daily News said Thursday that Siddiqui, 37, told Manhattan Federal Judge Richard Berman that keeping such individuals out of the jury poll would ensure fairness in the so-called "Lady al-Qaida" trial.

"If they have a Zionist or Israeli background ... they are all mad at me," Siddiqui claimed Wednesday.

"I have a feeling everyone here is them -- subject to genetic testing ... They should be excluded if you want to be fair," she added.

Siddiqui is facing attempted murder charges for allegedly shooting at a group of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan in July 2008.

Authorities allege Siddiqui, a neuroscientist trained in the United States, was carrying documents on how to build biological and chemical weapons at the time of her arrest.

Prosecutors allege the terror suspect also had a list of potential terror strike targets such as the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building, the Daily News reported.
