Conditions at Ohio school prompt lawsuit

OREGON, Ohio, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Twelve students in Oregon, Ohio, are suing their school district, alleging their class on alternative energy technology was ill-equipped.

Toledo's WTOL-TV reported Wednesday the Oregon Career and Technology Center students allege in their lawsuit against Oregon City Schools their school failed to provide their teacher proper equipment to teach solar panel installation and wind technology.

"They didn't have the equipment for the solar installation that we were supposed to learn until the beginning of this month, January," Dawn Weinbrecht, one of the students, alleges. "The course was supposed to end Dec. 12."

The Lucas County Common Pleas Court lawsuit accuses Oregon City Schools of breach of contract, negligence and fraud. The suit is seeking unspecified monetary damages for the dozen students, who reportedly paid for the school's course using stimulus funds.

Oregon Schools Superintendent Mike Zalar told WTOL the district has taken steps to improve the green energy program and address the complaints.
