Teenage burn victim released from hospital

MIAMI, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- A 15-year-old Florida boy is out of the hospital for a second time in the wake of suffering severe burns in a 2009 attack, his mother says.

Michael Brewer's mother, Valerie, confirmed her son completed a second hospital stay Thursday after having problems breathing and there remained a chance the teen could face additional medical treatment in the future, The Miami Herald said Friday.

"So there is a small chance that he may need more surgery but we are all thinking positive thoughts and praying that we will not have to,'' Valerie Brewer said in an online posting.

Authorities in Broward County, Fla., said Michael Brewer suffered burns to 65 percent of his body after being attacked by a group of schoolmates Oct. 12.

One of the students poured rubbing alcohol on Brewer and ignited the liquid, authorities said.

The Herald said the injured teen was hospitalized for two months after the attack before being released. Brewer was listed in serious condition when he visited a Miami hospital on Sunday.
