FBI Most Wanted fugitive arrested in Utah

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- A murder suspect from California who earned a spot among the FBI's Most Wanted fugitives was caught Friday in South Salt Lake, Utah, authorities say.

The Salt Lake Tribune said convicted felon Kenneth David Howell was apprehended in a South Salt Lake home early Friday by U.S. marshals, South Salt Lake police and members of the multi-agency Joint Criminal Apprehension Team.

South Salt Lake police Sgt. Gary Keller said in addition to Howell, 44, authorities arrested Timothy Ray Slaughter, 37, on multiple arrest warrants during the raid.

Howell is suspected of killing his 34-year-old his wife, Tammy Lynn Howell, Aug. 24 at their home in Lake Los Angeles, Calif.

Authorities allege Howell raped his 13-year-old stepdaughter following the killing, committing the crime in the same room as the girl's mother was slain.

A federal arrest warrant for Howell was issued on Oct. 16, but he remained a fugitive until an anonymous tip led authorities to the Utah home.

"I'm just very glad he's off the street," Sgt. Kenneth Clark of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told the Tribune.
