ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Pakistan's fight against domestic insurgency is succeeding with the help of its security forces, President Asif Ali Zardari said.

Speaking to visiting British Conservative Party Parliament member Andrew Mitchell, Zardari said his government is successfully moving forward in the fight against militants and Pakistani security forces are making gains in the tribal areas despite numerous sacrifices, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

Zardari said the government needs further support from the international community for stability of the region and overcoming economic stresses, while appreciating Britain's development assistance, the report said.
