Leads sought in Buffalo gay-bashing attack

BUFFALO, N.Y., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A Buffalo woman says she may permanently lose her sight in one eye because of an alleged gay-bashing incident outside a lesbian bar on New Year's Eve.

Lindsay Harmon, 29, told The Buffalo (N.Y.) News she was apparently stabbed in the eye when she and two friends were allegedly jumped by two other women who shouted anti-gay slurs at them.

She told the newspaper she still can't see out of her injured eye despite three hours of surgery and doesn't yet know if her vision will return.

"I hope the police catch the woman who stabbed me," Harmon said. "I want to sit in front of her and ask her, 'How and why you do this?'"

Police have issued a public appeal for any information on the incident.

The News said Wednesday the attack took place less than 12 hours after two women were arrested for allegedly attacking a homosexual man in nearby Cheektowaga. Police do not believe the incidents are related.
