Yemen says embassies not in danger

SANA'A, Yemen, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Security procedures around foreign embassies and foreign residences in Sana'a have been beefed up against possible attacks, the Yemeni Interior Ministry said.

An Interior Ministry official said all embassies, diplomatic missions and foreign companies were fully secured and "there is nothing to be worried about," Yemen's official SABA news agency reported Tuesday.

"Security is (being) maintained and there is no fear for the life of any foreigner or any foreign embassy in the country," the official told SABA.

The U.S. and British Embassies closed Sunday based on credible information of a possible terrorist attack. Both embassies have since reopened, although the British Embassy's visa and consular services remained suspended.

Among other things, the Yemeni ministry official said, security measures have suspected al-Qaida terrorists under around-the-clock surveillance.

The Nigerian man accused of trying to blow up a Detroit-bound Northwest airliner on Christmas Day allegedly was trained in Yemen.

The ministry also announced it captured five terrorist suspects and killed two other suspects in and around Sana'a.
