Professor admits taping students in toilet

GREELEY, Colo., Jan. 5 (UPI) -- A former professor of theater at the University of Northern Colorado has admitted secretly videotaping male students using his bathroom, officials said.

At a hearing Monday, Vance Fulkerson, 64, pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of children, charges involving five students who were under 18, The Denver Post reported. Other charges, including nine alleged violations of "peeping Tom" laws and six more child exploitation counts, are to be dismissed.

Fulkerson could receive anything from probation to life when he is sentenced in March, a prosecutor said. Under his plea agreement, he must also register as a sex offender.

Alexander Garlin, Fulkerson's lawyer, said he will ask Weld County District Judge Thomas Quammen to spare his client prison. He argues that Fulkerson has to care for his 92-year-old mother and has done "a lot of good things in his life," including building up the university's theater program.

Fulkerson resigned from the university in September, two months after a student found a video camera in the bathroom hidden inside a clock.
