U.S. figure skater Kwan to visit S. Korea

WASHINGTON, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- U.S. figure skater Michelle Kwan will visit South Korea as part of the State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the department said.

During her Jan. 3-9 visit, Kwan is scheduled to visit Seoul, Pyeongchang and Goyang, taking part in roundtable discussions, visiting high schools, conducting skating clinics and participating in a Special Olympics program, the state department said in a release Thursday. She also will meet with U.S forces stationed in in South Korea.

The trip will be the two-time Olympic medalist's fifth tour as a public diplomacy envoy, the State Department said.
