Utah Craigslist buyer held for kidnap

SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Utah authorities say they are investigating an alleged robbery and kidnapping that began with a contact on Craigslist.

Salt Lake County prosecutors said the 21-year-old suspect was in jail on charges he pulled a gun on another man who was selling an item on the popular Internet classifieds site.

Court documents said the suspect, whose name was not released, allegedly forced the seller to drive to a bank to pull money from his account, but the victim thwarted the plan by turning his car into the path of an oncoming sheriff's patrol car.

The Salt Lake Tribune said Wednesday suspect fled but was nabbed a short time later, allegedly with the victim's identification and cell phone in his possession.

The newspaper said the incident was the second alleged theft involving Craigslist in the Salt Lake area this month. The other was an alleged fraudulent sale of a Chevy SUV by a suspect claiming to be a U.S. Marine shipping out to Afghanistan.
