TEHRAN, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- The United States and others trying to interfere with Iran's domestic politics have no influence, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Wednesday.

The official IRNA news agency reported Ahmadinejad, speaking in Tehran after a Cabinet meeting, said efforts by the United States and European powers to "create tension in the Islamic Republic of Iran" is a "repetition of their past mistakes."

IRNA said Ahmadinejad asserted "the leaders of such foreign countries should know that their efforts will have no impact on the equations, stands, ideals and progressive movements of the Iranian people."

Ahmadinejad made the statements after security forces engaged in fierce clashes with pro-democracy demonstrators Sunday in Tehran, in which local media reported that eight people were killed and at least 300 arrested.
