SEATTLE, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- A Seattle man accused of shooting his girlfriend and baby daughter to death last week was arrested Monday in California, Seattle police said.

Daniel Thomas Hicks, 29, was picked up in Santa Cruz without incident, police said in a brief written statement.

The Seattle Times said that, according to a law enforcement source, investigators traced a call Hicks made Monday to a relative who was cooperating with police in the manhunt.

Hicks was charged last week with murder. He allegedly shot Jennifer Morgan and 13-week-old Ema Morgan multiple times with a .45-caliber handgun last Monday in the basement of their home in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood.

KING-TV, Seattle, reported court documents said Hicks was apparently angry that Ema Morgan had not been born a boy, and that he had doubts he was the father.

King County prosecutors filed murder charges against Hicks last week and could seek the death penalty.
