OAK POINT, Texas, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- A 10-year-old girl was fatally shot in her family's home in Oak Point, Texas, on Christmas Eve, a neighbor said.
The Dallas Morning News said Friday Ashley Watrous was pronounced dead Thursday night after being shot in an Oak Point home. Specific details of the incident that led to the child's death were not available.
Neighbor Maria Gonzalez said she thinks the 10-year-old girl was the oldest of four children being raised by a single father in the home.
Gonzalez told the Morning News the young girl, along with one of her brothers, took time this week to hand-deliver cookies to her for Christmas.
"I thought it was so precious of her," Gonzalez said. "It's something they did almost every year. I told her I didn't have anything for her and she said, 'That's OK.' That was very sweet."
