'Ponzi' lawyer's office items auctioned

TAMARAC, Fla., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Items from the law offices of Florida attorney Scott Rothstein, indicted for a massive Ponzi scheme, will be auctioned off, officials say.

AMC Liquidators of Tamarac, Fla., says it will hold a Jan. 23 auction for such items as Oriental rugs and autographed photos of the now-disbarred Rothstein with politicians, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

Michael Grimme of AMC told the newspaper it's hard to predict what the items might fetch, saying, "Someone might want bragging rights to some item and would be willing to pay for it."

Rothstein, a formerly high-flying attorney known for his lavish lifestyle and social connections that included politicians and celebrity athletes, is facing racketeering charges after being indicted for allegedly running a $1.2 billion investment scam out of the offices of his now-bankrupt law firm.
