Missing mom's husband attends vigil

PUYALLUP, Wash., Dec. 21 (UPI) -- The husband of missing Utah mom Susan Powell showed up at a candlelight vigil for her despite his suspected involvement in the disappearance, witnesses say.

Attendees at the Sunday vigil in Powell's hometown of Puyallup, Wash., told The Salt Lake Tribune they were shocked to see Joshua Powell, 34, attend the ceremony, apparently traveling there from the couple's home in West Valley City, Utah. Reportedly with him was the couple's 4-year-old son.

Witnesses told the newspaper Susan Powell's parents, Chuck and Judy Cox, walked by Powell without speaking to him.

"It's hard for us to understand that," Kayla Reed, who is helping to organize the search for Susan Powell, told the Tribune. "I would be frantic if it were my husband. I wouldn't be leaving the state."

At the vigil, a Cox family friend said the missing woman's relatives had received support from all over the world.

Police have said Joshua Powell is a person of interest in the Dec. 7 disappearance of his wife. Powell told police he took his sons, ages 2 and 4, on a short camping trip that day, leaving after midnight and returning home at 5 p.m. to find her gone.
