MADISON, Wis., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- A judge in Dane County, Wis., said the son of State Capitol Police Chief Charles Tubbs will spend four years in prison for his part in an arson spree.
Dane County Circuit Judge Stephen Ehlke sentenced Collin Tubbs, 20, to prison Friday for taking part in acts of arson in Madison, Cross Plains and Middleton, Wis., the Wisconsin State Journal reported.
Ehlke recognized that Tubbs's crimes were not as severe as those of co-defendant Christopher D. Ripp, but insisted Tubbs pay for his crimes.
"I find this to be an extremely depressing situation because it didn't need to be, and should not have occurred," the judge said of the incidents prompted by gay slurs directed at Ripp during a fight.
Ripp, 24, set the Feb. 13 fires at multiple Wisconsin homes using gasoline and Tubbs served as his driver. Ripp received a six-year prison sentence for his crimes.
The State Journal said in addition to his four-year sentence, Tubbs received a 6 1/2-year extended supervision sentence and was ordered to serve 100 hours of community service.
