Deadly explosion in Tenn. ruled accidental

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 11 (UPI) -- An explosion that destroyed a luxury home in the Knoxville area, killing one person and leaving two others hurt was accidental, authorities said Friday.

Knox County Sheriff's Office Fire Investigator Mike Dalton said while the official cause of the early Wednesday blast at the $1 million home remained undetermined, he deemed it unlikely it was intentionally caused, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported.

The day of the explosion, authorities had said they suspected the person killed was the teenage son of the homeowners. But Dalton added Friday authorities had yet to positively identify the remains. The fire investigator said dental records will be used as part of the identification process.

The homeowners, Sue and Stephen Krzeski, were injured when thrown from the home by the force of the explosion. Both were in stable condition.

The News Sentinel said the couple's 18-year-old son Nicholas was asleep in the home's basement when the explosion occurred.

Neighbor Steve Stephenson said Stephen Krzeski had been concerned a fireplace in his home was possibly leaking natural gas.
