KABUL, Afghanistan, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- A landmine killed a U.S. soldier and a NATO-led airstrike killed a group of Taliban militants in Afghanistan, the military said Sunday.
The soldier was killed during combat operations in eastern Afghanistan, the International Security Assistance Force said without elaborating.
The international force's planes Sunday killed a group of militants suspected of involvement in bomb blasts in the Alingar district of Laghman province, the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported.
NATO-led troops Sunday also arrested a Taliban commander and another militant after searching a compound in Kandahar province, the NATO press office said in a release.
"The commander is responsible for several (improvised explosive devices) and suicide bomb attacks and for distributing arms and IED materials to insurgents in the area," the release said.
