PORT WASHINGTON, Wis., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin man charged with killing his stepson to get even with his wife for reporting his assault on her has now been charged with domestic abuse.

Charles A. Avey, 37, of Grafton is being held on first-degree murder. The new charges added Thursday include strangling and suffocating his wife, Trista, and beating her with a dangerous weapon on Nov. 8, a week before her son was killed, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

When Trista Avey reported the attack to police Nov. 15, she said she waited a week because she feared her husband.

Charles Avey allegedly admitted to police he saw his mother-in-law's car outside the police station. He said he killed Cody Reetz, 14, in a minivan in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Germantown late that afternoon to get revenge.

Trista Avey called police at 7 p.m., telling investigators she had just received a text message: "Cody is dead." Avey surrendered to the Washington County Sheriff's Office a half hour later.
