Clemmons called aunt after shooting

SEATTLE, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- The aunt of Maurice Clemmons said her nephew called her four times after he allegedly shot and killed four police officers in Lakewood, Wash.

Chrisceda Clemmons, 45, said her nephew called her four times after last Sunday's deadly shooting to inform her he was coming to her house in Seattle's Leschi neighborhood, The Seattle Times reported Thursday.

"Maurice sounded pretty normal, just a little hyped," Chrisceda Clemmons said of her nephew, who was shot by one of the officers he allegedly killed. "He didn't sound weak from his gunshot."

Chrisceda Clemmons said her 37-year-old nephew wanted her and her husband, Michael Shantz, to help him escape to Arkansas, the state where he was born and considered home.

Chrisceda Clemmons said she and her husband ultimately decided not to offer her nephew assistance and instead contacted the police.

She told the Times while her nephew was shot and killed by a Seattle police officer early Tuesday morning, she is convinced she did the right thing.

"Do I feel badly?" she said. "Yes, I feel bad, but it was the right thing to do because I didn't want him to hurt any more people."
