KABUL, Afghanistan, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama's move to send 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan is doomed to fail, Taliban militants say.
In a statement posted Wednesday on a Taliban Web site, the insurgents said Obama's move is "no solution" to Afghanistan's problems and so will fail and only serve to increase U.S. troop casualties in the country, the Japanese news agency Kyodo reported.
"Like the past strategies, this new strategy will also fail," the statement said, promising more attacks on foreign and Afghan troops. Militants, it reportedly said, have "full patience and preparation to fight Americans and local forces."
The Taliban warning came as NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen told reporters he expects NATO to contribute at least 5,000 additional troops to fight against the growing Taliban insurgency, which would be added to the 100,000 foreign troops already in the country.
