Miguel Antonio Gomez, 57, of Town 'n' Country, was pronounced dead at a hospital after the slaying on Monday, the St. Petersburg Times reported.
Gomez was in an altercation with several men when he was shot, the newspaper reported.
Police said three suspects, white or Hispanic, ages 18 to 24, escaped in a car.
Investigators examined a hole in a window a few houses away from where Gomez lived.
In 1997, Gomez was convicted on charges of false imprisonment of a child under the age of 13 while committing sexual battery; sexual battery of a child under 16; and an attempted lewd and lascivious act on a child under 16. Last month, Gomez was convicted on a marijuana possession charge.
