LOS ANGELES, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- An aerialist fell 20 feet to the ground at a Los Angeles shopping center as spectators watched in horror, witnesses say.
The accident, which was taped, happened Saturday evening at the Beverly Center during a performance of the "Hunky Santa and the Candy Cane Girls" show, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, reported Monday.
The broadcaster said an unidentified 26-year-old woman broke her wrist and pelvis in the mishap. In the show, aerialists are reportedly suspended from rings as much as 80 feet above the mall's ground floor.
KTLA said the woman was hanging upside down from a metal hoop when she slipped off and plunged about 20 feet.
Beverly Center spokeswoman Susan Vance said the performer has "been evaluated and is doing well. These are all world-class performers, they do this all the time. It was a human error, basically."
Ray Pierce, the director of the show, told KTLA the dancer has worked for him for several years and indicated the troupe will rehearse this week with safety lines.
