CHICAGO, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- A fundraiser pressured to testify against former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich reportedly said, "Tell them they won," before dying of an overdose, police said.
Christopher Kelly was being treated Sept. 12 for an overdose of pain medications when he spoke to his girlfriend, Clarissa Flores-Buhelos, a police report released Monday said.
"It's my life," Kelly reportedly said. "Tell them they won, tell them they won."
The 47-page report released Monday to the Chicago Tribune by Country Club Hills, Ill., police doesn't specify to whom Kelly was referring.
The report said Kelly made the comment at Oak Forest Hospital before being transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he died.
A county medical examiner's report ruled the death a suicide, saying Kelly overdosed on diphenhydramine, salicylate and acetaminophen, all common over-the-counter medications.
Blagojevich was arrested in December on federal corruption charges involving conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and solicitation of bribery.
