FORT HOOD, Texas, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Hasan, accused of killing 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas, is paralyzed from the chest down, doctors said.
Hasan's civilian attorney, John Galligan, said Sunday physicians said they believe the paralysis is permanent, The Washington Post reported Monday.
"He has no sensation from the nipple area down," Galligan told the Post in a telephone interview.
Hasan, a psychiatrist, has been recovering from gunshot wounds at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. He has been charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder in the Nov. 5 massacre.
Galligan said he "fully anticipates" military prosecutors may file more charges.
During a closed-door hearing in Hasan's hospital room Saturday, a magistrate ruled Hasan be confined until his military trial, Galligan said.
