NEW YORK, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has decided not to run for governor of New York in 2010, sources informed of the decision said.

The New York Times said Thursday the reports from the unidentified sources that Giuliani will not make a run at the governor's office come a day after Giuliani spokeswoman Maria Comella said any announcements of a final decision would be premature.

Some political analysts predicted Giuliani, who lost in the 2008 Republican presidential primary, would have been able to defeat Democratic Gov. David A. Paterson next year.

Those analysts were concerned that Giuliani may have struggled if opposed by New York Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo, who reportedly is considering running for governor.

The Times said Giuliani, 65, said last Sunday during an ABC interview that he had not made a final decision regarding a possible 2010 electoral campaign.

"I will very soon," the former mayor said.
