LAFAYETTE, Ind., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- An Indiana boy was hospitalized Thursday after a school science experiment caused a flash fire, burning him, another student and their teacher, officials said.
"I have not spoken with his parents today," said Tippecanoe School Corp. Superintendent Scott Hanback in Lafayette, Ind.
"All we really know is his injuries were more significant than (those of) the other student," Hanback said.
Two students were burned during an eighth-grade science experiment involving rubbing alcohol around 10 a.m. Wednesday, school officials said.
They wouldn't say more about the accident.
An unidentified 14-year-old boy was airlifted to a children's hospital in Indianapolis where he remained Thursday evening. The hospital released no information about him or his condition.
An unidentified 15-year-old boy was treated at a local hospital and released. The unidentified teacher was treated at the scene, paramedics said.
A parent identified the airlifted boy as Cody Garrett, WLFI-TV, West Lafayette, Ind., reported.
A Web page sponsored by the Clarian Health state healthcare system included a statement posted by a Web user identifying herself as Cody Garrett's sister saying her brother was in critical condition with third-degree burns on the front of his body.
