RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 18 (UPI) -- A man executed for killing a Virginia couple in 2001 said he wanted his death to serve as a "launching pad" for elimination of the death penalty.

The attorney for former Army intelligence officer Larry Bill Elliot, 60, read a statement from his client Tuesday night shortly after Elliot died in the electric chair, the commonwealth assembled and presented a massive amount of false information," Elliot said in the statement.

"God's purpose for my death is to demonstrate how fractured our judicial system has become in regard to capital cases."

Elliott was sentenced to death for killing Dana Thrall, 25, who was pistol-whipped and shot three times in her Dale City townhouse.

Robert Finch, 30, who lived with Thrall, was shot in the head, chest and back.

Elliott was sentenced to life in prison without parole for Finch's slaying.
