NEW YORK, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- The father of a boy who had accused Michael Jackson of molesting him in the 1990s has died of an apparent suicide, police said.
Evan Chandler, 65, was found dead in a waterfront Jersey City, N.J., apartment, of a single gunshot wound to the head, authorities told the New York Post. The death occurred Nov. 5, the Post said.
In the early 1990s, Chandler reported to authorities in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara that Jackson had molested his son Jordan, who was 13 at the time.
Chandler and his son sued Jackson and reportedly received a $15 million settlement, the Post said.
In 2006, the newspaper said, Jordan claimed his father had attacked him with a dumbbell weight and got a restraining order against him.
Jackson died June 25 at 50. His death was declared a homicide after a lethal level of the anesthesia propofol was found in his system.
His death is still under investigation.
