WASHINGTON, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- This month's mass shootings at Fort Hood, Texas, were "clearly a terrorist act," former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said Sunday.
Thirteen people died and many more were wounded when a shooter, suspected to be Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, opened fire on the base. Hasan has since been linked to a radical Islamic imam in Yemen who praised the suspect as a "hero."
Giuliani, appearing Sunday on ABC's "This Week," said the Fort Hood shootings were "clearly a terrorist act in the name of Islamic terrorism. Gosh, (Hasan) announced it as such when he did it. He was carrying around business cards saying 'soldier of Allah.'"
The one-time Republican U.S. presidential contender also blasted a decision by the Obama administration to hold a New York civilian trial for avowed Sept. 11, 2001, terror attack mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed and four other Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, detainees.
"They're going to try five other people at least in those military tribunals," Giuliani said. "I don't understand why they can't try Khalid Sheik Mohammed in the military tribunal. That also would demonstrate we're a nation of laws."
