Sanford's wife wants to trademark her name

COLUMBIA, S.C., Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Jenny Sanford, whose husband, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, admitted to an affair in June, has filed an application to trademark her name, documents show.

Her $325 filing said the trademark is intended for items bearing her name to be sold by an online retailer, The State newspaper reported Saturday in Columbia, S.C.

The merchandise would include clothing, mugs, notepads, stickers, decals and "other household items," the filing said.

When her marital problems surfaced, Jenny Sanford asked the media to respect her privacy. Recently she has resumed a public profile, with a Vogue magazine spread, a book due in April and her own Web site, The State reported.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has not approved the trademark, asking for more specifics about the merchandise she plans to sell.
