LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE, Calif., Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Six homes in La Canada Flintridge, Calif., were damaged after heavy rain helped transform a hillside into a large mudslide, an official said Friday.

Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Frederic Stowers said public works crews were cleaning up the La Canada Flintridge mudslide, which also left several cars buried, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Stowers said a period of heavy rain Thursday night caused a burn area above the California city to give way, sending four to five feet of mud downhill.

The fire inspector said the incident, which resulted in no reported injuries, should serve as a warning to other foothill communities in the area.

"Take these warnings seriously," Stowers told the Times of the mudslide threats in the wake of the recent Station Fire. "The one thing we want to let citizens know is always maintain a state of readiness, emergency preparedness, in case something like this happens where you have to evacuate very quickly."
