WASHINGTON, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- U.S. President Obama ordered a review of all intelligence related to the Fort Hood, Texas, shooting and defendant Maj. Nidal Hasan, and how it was handled.
In a memo released Thursday, Obama said he directed the inventory the day after 13 people were killed inside Fort Hood's Soldier Readiness Center, naming counter-terrorism adviser John Brennan in charge of the review.
Hasan was charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder Thursday, one charge for each of the 12 military personnel and one civilian the military psychiatrist is accused of shooting and killing Nov. 5 when he opened fire inside Fort Hood's Soldier Readiness Center. More than 30 people were wounded.
Besides ordering the inventory, "I directed an immediate review be initiated to determine how any such intelligence was handled, shared and acted upon within individual departments and agencies and what intelligence was shared with others," Obama said. "This inventory and review shall be conducted in a manner that does not interfere with the ongoing criminal investigations of the Fort Hood shooting."
The results of the inventory and review, and any recommendations for improvements will be provided to Brennan by Nov. 30, Obama said.
