TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 10 (UPI) -- A mother and the baby in her lap escaped serious injury when their car crashed at the Tampa, Fla., airport, destroying an outdoor aquarium, officials said.

The woman, whose name was not released, accidentally drove her car Monday night over the curb and into the tank located outside the American Airlines baggage claim, said Al Illustrato, director of airport maintenance.

The car barely missed a concrete pole and the airport's wall, Illustrato told The St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times in a story published Tuesday. The mother and the baby suffered minor injuries.

A dozen or so saltwater fish died in the crash, though four or five fish were believed to have survived along with some hermit crabs. Officials from the Florida Aquarium were caring for the survivors.

"They're just so fragile," Illustrato said.
