Volunteer allegedly used tape on students

DENVER, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- The head of a Denver school dismissed a volunteer and filed a police report alleging the volunteer used masking tape on two 14-year-old boys, records show.

Ami Desai, the head of Denver Venture, a charter school, filed the report after parents of the children involved in the alleged incident said they insisted she do so, or they would file a report themselves, KMGH-TV, Denver, reported Tuesday.

"The volunteer was joking around with the kids. It was not done maliciously. (The students) were laughing and the volunteer was laughing," said Desai, who added that the volunteer's actions were inappropriate and the volunteer was dismissed.

"Ms. Desai said they did my son a favor because he was a chatterbox and that if he had been kicked out of class then he would have been suspended," one of the boys' parents, Shelly Kitts, said.

The parents said they only found out about the incident two weeks later from another parent, the news agency said.

The incident is the second of its kind to surface at the Denver Public Schools in the last three weeks, the newspaper reported.
