HARRISONVILLE, Mo., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- A woman said she is lucky to be alive after a hunter's stray bullet struck her in the face as she was driving in Cass County, Mo.
KCTV, Kansas City, Mo., said Monday while a bullet fired by a hunter more than a mile away struck Lisa Long last week in rural Cass County, the woman only required six stitches to close up a gaping bullet wound.
"The bullet went through the cheek, all the way through, came in between my gum and knocked some teeth," Long said.
Long said when she was first hit by the stray bullet while driving last Tuesday, she did not realize what had happened.
"I thought a rock had been kicked up from a tire, I couldn't figure out what it was," Long said.
Long said after feeling blood on her face, she got her mother to take her to the hospital.
KCTV said while the hunter responsible for the errant shot was not identified, Long is focusing on her good fortune.
"It's just unbelievable how your life can change in a flash," Long said. "I've been given a gift -- wow, I'm alive and I'm here."
