FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Crews Monday searched for the pilot of a plane that crashed in the Florida Everglades, the Broward County Sheriff's Office said.

A Federal Aviation Administration official said the pilot was alone in the aircraft that departed from Tamiami Airport in Kendall for Ocala when it crashed Sunday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

Rescue workers and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers located the crash site about 200 yards north of Interstate-75 on the north side of the Everglades in the so-called Alligator Alley, a remote area of western Broward County, FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said.
