LAPD still tracking hotel sneak thief

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Los Angeles police say they are learning more about a slippery thief who has been talking his way into hotels and offices to steal valuables.

The suspect remained at large Saturday after recently victimizing an Israeli basketball team, a salsa band and Mexico's famed Chivas soccer team during visits to the city.

"These out-of-town visitors are often unfamiliar with their surroundings and are often carrying lots of cash," police Lt. Paul Vernon told the Los Angeles Times.

Vernon said the investigation has also indicated the suspect is what is known as an "office creeper" who slips into office building and makes off with laptop computers.

Investigators believe the man peruses Websites and social media to follow the movements of celebrity victims and then charms his way into their hotels while they are away.
