EAST LANSING, Mich., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Four freshmen at Michigan State University are facing criminal charges for allegedly detonating a commercial-grade explosive at a home, authorities said.
East Lansing Police Capt. Tom Johnstone said the four suspects intentionally threw the explosive, a type of powerful firework, at a house in East Lansing, Mich., last weekend, The Detroit News said Thursday.
"It was thrown in the direction of a specific address," said Johnstone, who did not offer a possible motive for last Sunday's incident. "Officers on duty heard the explosion and went in the direction of the smoke."
The individuals charged with placing explosives and causing property damage, along with possession of bombs with unlawful intent, were identified as Olivia M. Hudson, Darby D. Dudley, Sasha N. Savage and Nikolai E. Wasielewski.
The suspects, who are all 18, face as long as 20 years in prison and a $15,000 fine. A hearing was scheduled for next Tuesday, the News reported.
