City watchdog sues Chicago government

CHICAGO, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- The Chicago inspector general has asked a court to order Mayor Richard Daley's office to hand over documents needed for a corruption investigation.

The inspector general's office, which serves as a watchdog for city government, said the mayor's office has been stalling in responding to a subpoena, the Chicago Tribune reported. The requested documents involve a no-bid contract awarded to a former city worker in 2006.

Mary Hodge, the first deputy inspector general, filed a lawsuit Wednesday in Chancery Court, naming Mara Georges, head of the city law department. The suit does not name the former employee or give details of the investigation.

The lawsuit said the agency's findings "to date suggests that the city's process for awarding the contract under investigation was manipulated by city employees."
