St. Louis County passes smoking ban

Congress passes anti-smoking bill in Washington

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Residents of St. Louis County, Mo., approved a referendum that bans smoking in certain indoor locations beginning in 2011.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch said while St. Louis aldermen had previously approved the smoking ban, implementation was contingent on voter approval in surrounding St. Louis County. The measure garnered 65 percent of the vote.

The Post Dispatch said smoking will still be allowed on casino floors and in bars where food sales do not represent more than 25 percent of overall sales.

The smoking ban will also grants allows bars in St. Louis with no more than 2,000 square feet of service space to ignore the ban until 2016.
