CHICAGO, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- A year-old girl was injured when the doors of a Chicago commuter train closed on her stroller and the train pulled out of the station, police said.
The toddler, who was expected to fully recover, fell from her stroller onto the gravel Chicago Transit Authority track bed, but not on the tracks, Monday night at the Rogers Park station, police told the Chicago Tribune.
The girl's mother was trying to board the train when the doors closed on the stroller and the train began moving while the mother was still on the platform and the girl still in the stroller, police spokesman John Mirabelli said.
The train dragged the stroller sideways and the girl, who was not belted into the stroller, fell out and struck her head on the platform, Mirabelli said.
Witnesses heard the mother scream, "The train took my baby!"
The girl was hospitalized at Children's Memorial Hospital with a possible concussion, police said.
The train was equipped with a signal that should have notified the driver a door had not completely closed, WBBM-TV, Chicago, reported Monday night.
City transportation officials were investigating.
