MOUNT AIRY, N.C., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- A man accused in the shooting deaths of four people in Mount Airy, N.C., was captured Monday in Virginia near the North Carolina state line, police said.

Two victims died Sunday at the scene, a downtown Mount Airy store, and two died of their injuries at an area hospital, WXII-TV, Greensboro, N.C., reported Monday.

Marcos Gonzalez, 29, was arrested without incident at a motel in Henry County, Va., about 50 miles northeast of Mount Airy, police said.

Mount Airy Police Chief Dale Watson said about a dozen people witnessed the shooting.

Watson said the investigation so far indicate the Gonzales, who has a criminal record, and the victims knew each other.

"We don't feel this was a random event," Watson said. "We do have an idea why, but we won't be releasing that."
