NWS warns of river flooding in Missouri

PACIFIC, Mo., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- The National Weather Service said Monday that water levels at the Meramec and Mississippi rivers in Missouri are above flood stage.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch said, according to the weather service, the Meramac River at Valley Park, Mo., reached 26.94 feet and 28.59 feet in Eureka, Mo., as of Monday morning. The river's flood stage is 15 feet.

Meanwhile, the Mississippi River reached 32.5 feet in St. Louis Monday morning, above the river's flood stage of 30 feet.

Flooding along the Mississippi River prompted the closure of President Casino in St. Louis on Sunday when the riverboat casino's entrance ramps became swamped by the rising waters.

An unidentified casino spokeswoman said the gambling site would remain closed until flood waters clear from the casino's ramps, .

The Post-Dispatch said with the Mississippi River expected to crest at 33.8 feet due to last week's rainfall, area flood gates were closed and flood panels installed to minimize possible flood damage.
