Man found guilty of hiring fetus killer

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- A jury in Minneapolis Friday found a man guilty of murder for hiring another man to punch his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach to kill the fetus.

Dameon Gatson, 25, of Hopkins faces life in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 10 for his first- and second-degree murder and first-degree assault convictions in Hennepin County District Court, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

The jury agreed with prosecutors that Gatson hired Paul A. Petersen for $40 to punch Shyloe Linde in 2007. She gave birth three months prematurely and the baby died nine days later. Authorities said the baby suffered severe bleeding in the brain.

Petersen, who admitted his role but refused to testify against Gatson this week, had told police Gatson sought his help because he didn't want to pay child support.
